Long Weekend

Aaron and I had eagerly been awaiting the arrival of my friend Jess and her boyfriend, Josh, last week. They got in Wednesday evening around dinnertime safe and sound. But not before getting a speeding ticket less than an hour after leaving Kansas. We should've suspected that the weekend might've been jinxed then, but we had no idea what we were in for. I'll hit a few of the highlights.

Friday night, on our way to dinner, I was driving my car w/ Aaron, Jess, and Josh w/ me. We were on the highway and got rear-ended when I had to slow down for another accident in front of us. I wish I could say it was the first time, but this is actually the second time in the last 9 months that I've been rear-ended. Damn city drivers. Unfortunately, this one is worse than the last (seeing as how it was a huge truck that hit me instead of a Honda, like last time). My right tail light is falling off, or was before Aaron bungeed it back on:). My bumper has to be replaced. And my back door is also dented and needs replaced. Luckily, we don't have to pay for any of it since it wasn't my fault. But it's still a pain in the butt having to arrange for it to get fixed.

Then, after getting rear-ended, we arrive at the restaurant at 8:25- only to find out they're closing at 8:30 for some strange reason. Only, Beth and Ben were meeting us there and hadn't arrived yet. So we had to make other dinner plans.

We woke up Saturday morning at 5:15 in anticipation of a great day skiing at Copper Mountain. We sort of got a late start (thanks to our sleepy guests:). And then the drive took around 3 hours, when it usually takes 2. But, it was a beautiful morning and we were still excited to be there. So we hit the slopes... Only to have Jess twist her ankle on the second run and for me to find out that the ski rental people didn't adjust the ski bindings correctly and my boots kept coming off of the skis at that slightest turn. Luckily, Josh fixed them for me or it would've been a really long day. So we got in a couple good hours of skiing in beautiful, sunny weather before Aaron and I wanted some lunch. And then, the temp dropped drastically, the wind picked up, and it started snowing. So we didn't enjoy ourselves nearly as much after that and were more than ready to call it a day when the lifts were closed. Unfortunately, the worst was yet to come. Due to the avalanche near Winter Park that some of you may have heard of, all the traffic from that highway was diverted to I-70- which we were travelling. In addition, they were apparently a couple of really bad wrecks before Eisenhower Tunnel. And of course, traffic would've been bad anyway because of the ski crowd. The end result: a FIVE HOUR trip home when it should've been two. It actually took us two hours to get from Silverthorn to the tunnel and the distance between the two is only TEN MILES. Needless to say, we were all very worn out by the time we finally reached home. Hopefully this next storm, which is supposed to arrive on Thursday or Friday this week- just like the last three weeks- won't be as bad. Because I was really looking forward to taking Melissa and Jake skiing next weekend. It's funny how we don't have visitors in months and then we have them two weeks in a row. But I'm not going to complain! I'm just happy to have friends coming to visit!!

That's about all. There's actually more drama from the weekend, but I got tired of typing and left out the less important details. Suffice it to say, it was an interesting weekend that only Jess could bring.
